Today was by far the most intense day I've spent in Cambodia. More than learning the history of Khmer Rouge through books or visiting genocide museums... we heard the stories first hand from our host parents today. Sara and I had the opportunity to hear from my host mom and Sara's host dad. The struggles and hardships they faced were so big compared to the challenges I've faced in my life so far. The frightening stories and terrible lives they lived sounded so surreal and unimaginable. I don't know how my host mom could keep her emotions in check while Sara and I were bawling our eyes out. Despite the sadness, I'm so glad that Peace Corps gave us this opportunity to live with host families and share these intense yet so meaningful moments with us. My heart still feels heavy and my mind is restless, but I'm just happy that my host mom is now leading a happy life. She's a great example of Cambodia's struggles, ability to overcome them, and the resiliency to continue on. Su Su!
